About the Opportunity:

GSG is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager, Digital Programs for our client in the financial services industry. As a member of the Digital PMO team, the Senior Project Manager, Digital Programs, will lead medium to large complex, cross-functional initiatives which deliver new digital solutions and improve the client experience for our financial advisors and their clients. 

Working within a hybrid Agile product and software development environment, the Senior Project Manager will lead through influence and bring the right cross-functional team members together to collaborate effectively across the project definition, discovery, development and launch phases and activities. He/she may also be responsible for serving in the role of Scrum Master serving teams working on Agile-based development initiatives.

The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for developing project plans and schedules, creating resource plans and project budgets, forecasting and tracking project actuals, proactively identifying and mitigating risks and resolving issues, and reporting project status to executives, managers, and team members. 

This is a leadership by influence role that requires an ability to balance the need to understand and maintain the strategic, big picture view of each project and its goals, while also being able to seamlessly execute each project predictably, with quality, and a high attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and drive the end-to-end product development and project lifecycle, including project definition, discovery, execution, and launch activities.
  • Partner effectively and closely with cross-functional teams, including Digital Business Analysts, Solutions Architects, Business Systems Analysts, Technical Leads, Developers, QA Leads, Operations, Sales, and other functional leads to deliver new solutions and capabilities.
  • Develop project schedules and timelines, identify and track dependencies, and provide visibility into the team’s progress in delivery projects predictably and with quality.
  • Develop effective reporting and presentations related to project status and progress, risks and issues, and timelines for a variety of audiences, including executives and business and technology team members.
  • Proactively identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, and avoid risks becoming issues that will impact the on-time delivery of projects. As issues arise, ensure the team quickly and effectively resolves issues and avoids impacts to project delivery.
  • Develop project budgets, resource plans, forecasts and reporting of project actuals vs. forecast to avoid significant variances.
  • Facilitate project meetings and working sessions, bringing together the right cross-functional team members to monitor project progress, keep each other accountable on commitments and deliverables based on the schedule, and quickly and proactively identify recommendations and solutions to resolve project challenges, consider alternatives, and resolve issues.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a similar project/program management role leading complex, cross-functional product and software development initiatives.  Experience leading Digital initiatives within the financial services industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong preference for candidates with 2-3 years as an Agile Project Manager and/or Scrum Master in an Agile environment. 
  • Strong knowledge of the product and software development lifecycle and practical experience managing projects with Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid environments. 
  • Self-directed and results driven, with demonstrated ability to effectively juggle multiple priorities across multiple initiatives. 
  • Persistence, action-orientation, and the right sense of urgency can be crucial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to communicate with all levels within the organization, from business and technology executives to team members.
  • Strong analytical, financial, budgeting and forecasting skills required to develop and track project budgets and avoid significant variances.
  • Effective problem-solving and project risk management skills.
  • Strong team building, facilitation and collaboration skills, including the ability to facilitate teams through conflict, consideration of multiple alternatives, and alignment on the best recommendations and solutions.
  • High level of flexibility, openness to change, committed to learning, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, information systems, or a technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Visio.  Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and OneNote highly preferred.  Experience working with Jira is also highly desired.
  • Prior experience in in the Financial Services industry.  Knowledge of Investment and Wealth Management and the Financial Advisor role and how technology can be leveraged to support their practice a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), or other related professional certifications a plus.
