About the Opportunity:

GSG is seeking a skilled Database Administrator to support the Enterprise Database Platform team at our financial services client. The team is dedicated to supporting and empowering 100+ application teams across the bank in the data tier layer. This includes systematizing the operational aspects of building, deploying, and maintaining the data tier, as well as supporting our colleagues in implementing industry best practices in their data tier usage.

The Database Administrator is responsible for implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of our critical databases. They ensure availability and a consistent high level of performance for our enterprise applications leveraging Microsoft SQL Server and various other database technologies in a hybrid cloud environment.

This position requires solid technical capability, excellent interpersonal and communication skills. As a Database Administrator you perform a wide variety of mission-critical functions and will work directly with Systems Engineers and Developers to achieve a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives while also ensuring that the company’s production databases offer the highest reliability and performance.

This role is primarily focused on supporting our existing Microsoft SQL Server based infrastructure, however, we are looking for candidates with experience managing Cloud hosted database instances with exposure to hybrid On-Premise/Cloud environments to support our ongoing Cloud journey. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage MSSQL Server databases across multiple environments including Production, Development, and QA
  • Monitor and support database backup and recovery processes
  • Troubleshoot database issues, providing end-to-end support and documenting solutions
  • Participate in defining, implementing, and maintaining business continuity and high availability database strategies
  • Assist with complex query tuning
  • Participate in and support On-Premise and Cloud database deployments and migrations
  • Work with IT Security/Audit teams to implement secure database architecture
  • Evaluates potential database related technology
  • Configure and maintain database servers including patching/lifecycle and health/performance/capacity monitoring

Qualifications

  • 4+ years Production Database Administration experience
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills including ability to work independently to complete defined tasks/goals
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) using native and 3rd party monitoring/troubleshooting tools
  • Experience performing MSSQL database migrations and upgrades
  • Knowledge of database indexing management and statistics
  • Experience supporting Windows Server 2016+
  • Experience supporting database backups, restores and various recovery models
  • Knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery strategies
  • Experience implementing operational automation for database management
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, and SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Passionate about for Database Performance
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies preferred
  • Experience with SQL and PostgreSQL,
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases,
  • Experience with Python, Golang, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Java,
  • Experience with Git, Jenkins builds,
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes/Openshift, Helm, or Vault,
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum frameworks

  • Kubernetes: OpenShift (RedHat’s Kubernetes distribution), Docker, Helm and other container tools 
  • CI/CD tools: Artifactory, Jenkins, HashiCorp Vault, Spinnaker, etc.
  • Cloud: AWS, Terraform, Ansible
  • Operational: NewRelic, Splunk, AquaSec, Codacy, etc. 
  • Operating Systems: Our deployment target is mostly Linux, but we support developers using Windows, Mac, and Linux
  • Supported platforms: js, SpringBoot, .NET Core, Python/Flask, front-end frameworks (Angular, Vue, React, etc). Really anything that can run in a container.
  • Databases: Snowflake, Aurora, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB
