As the “dog days of summer” fade into memory, and we gear up for the busy season ahead, I’d like to suggest that you take a moment to stop and reflect for a moment on what gives your life meaning. For some it’s raising children or caring for family members, for others it’s building a career, supporting a charity, helping out in the community or volunteering for those who can’t provide for themselves. The range of options for us as Americans is endless, and as the wealthiest nation in the world we have an obligation to find that purpose and direct our energies towards achieving that purpose.
For almost a century, Guide Dogs for the Blind has helped blind and vision-impaired individuals reach their full potential by providing them with amazing canine companions that help them become more independent so that they can fulfill their life’s purpose. And last weekend, we were proud to support the organization and help raise over $520K at the Guide Dogs for the Blind’s Canine Heroes Gala.
When I think about the work ethic and sense of purpose these beautiful guide dogs demonstrate in their daily lives, I think it’s a standard each of us can learn from. Each dog is purely devoted to helping their owners navigate the world, and their dedication creates a unique bond that benefits both parties in deep and meaningful ways.
Each and every day these dogs wake up to work for their human companions, helping them to be all that they can be. And, inspired by their example, I wake up every day grateful that I have the opportunity to work for my family, my employees and my clients – that’s what gives my life purpose.
